Top 5 Goal-Setting Mistakes That Delay Your Dreams

Have you set goals for yourself yet? Setting goals is one of the most essential parts of achieving success. Sometimes these goals can be hard to achieve but, most definitely not impossible. At the end of the day, it's important to look into the goal-setting process and make sure you're not setting yourself up for failure. In this article, you will learn what goal setting mistakes most people make so that you don't get stuck making them as well.

Setting Too Many Goals

It can be easy to go overboard on the goal setting, but the rule of quality over quantity applies here. It's much better to set a few goals that are important to you and that you are committed to achieving rather than setting loads of goals that you know you won't achieve.

Not Planning Well Enough

Setting a time limit for your goal can help you stay accountable and keep you on the right track. But this time limit must be accurate. Do not set time limits that are too long because then you can get easily distracted and spend more time than necessary. Setting a goal with a time limit that is too short is also harmful since you are basically setting yourself up for failure.

Not Writing Down Your Goal

A lot of people may see this as an unnecessary step, but writing your goal down on a piece of paper can be a key factor in staying motivated. It can even be a good idea to keep a copy of your goals in your pocket or backpack, the more you read and see your goals, the more inspired you will be to achieve them.

Not Reviewing Your Results

When you review your results every end of the week, you get a good idea of which strategies and techniques have worked and which of them need to be changed or improved. The effort you put in directly reflects in the results you get. Do a weekly review of your goals and ask yourself the following questions:

- How am I doing?

- What have I achieved this week?

- What went well?

- What went wrong?

- How can I improve next week?

You don't want to leave your comfort zone because putting yourself out there may cause these emotions. Putting yourself out there makes you feel vulnerable. You want to escape situations that could make you be seen as anything less than perfect.
